PRESS

Edouard Burgeat

Capture d'écran 2024-05-02 154602.png

Edouard Burgeat, a French artist born in 1988 in Paris, splits his time between his Parisian home and his studio on the outskirts of the Fontainebleau forest in Burcy. Educated at Les ateliers de Sèvres in Paris and Central Saint Martins in London, he graduated in 2012 with a degree in spatial and product design. This diverse educational background informs his multifaceted artistic practice, which includes large installations, photography, design, sculpture, and drawing. Burgeat's work is notable for its use of varied media and formats, enhancing the conceptual strength of each series.

Collaborating with cultural institutions like the Goethe Institute and Palais de Tokyo, and brands such as Louis Vuitton and Comme des Garçons, Burgeat also exhibits his art in prominent galleries including Olivier Waltman, 35-37, and Ground Effect. His creations often challenge conventional historical narratives by integrating found objects to draw connections across different eras, focusing on ethnological, economic, aesthetic, and cultural contexts.

Burgeat's process-oriented approach pushes the boundaries of photography from 2D to 3D and blurs the lines between art installations and product design, employing a mix of collage and photo transfer techniques. His work is deeply engaged with socio-political themes, offering a multifaceted critique of contemporary society that is at times cynical, critical, or light-hearted, yet always deeply introspective. Through his art, Burgeat invites viewers to engage both intellectually and emotionally, reflecting on the complexities of modern life.
